PT-141 (Bremelanotide)
PT-141, also known as bremelanotide, works on melanocortin receptors involved in sexual desire signaling within the brain. Unlike medicines that primarily improve blood flow, its main action is on central nervous system pathways related to sexual interest and arousal. A prescription form of bremelanotide is used for a narrowly defined sexual-desire condition in certain premenopausal women. It is sometimes marketed more broadly for libido, but effects vary and it is not a universal treatment for sexual dysfunction. Nausea, flushing, and temporary blood-pressure changes are among its important potential effects.
